Mobilization, Deployment & Stability Support Operations (MD&SSO) on U.S. Army MWR

The U.S. Army Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (the G9 Division of the U.S. Army Installation Management Command, known as Army MWR) manages programs and services that support readiness and resilience for Soldiers and Families. Its work enhances the lives of Soldiers, Families, Reservists, National Guard members, DoD Civilians, Retirees and the entire U.S. Army community.  Family and MWR Programs are delivered primarily through a local garrison or installation. Mobilization, Deployment and Stability and Support Operations

Deployment isn’t easy. MD&SSO helps make it as smooth as possible for units, Soldiers, and Families. MD&SSO provides training and publications to help commanders, Soldiers, and Families navigate the challenges of mobilization and deployment. We also have resources for rear detachment cadre and Soldier and Family Readiness Group (SFRG) leaders. We assist the chain of command by empowering SFRG leadership and volunteers, providing them with robust training and resources to maintain a successful and effective SFRG. In addition, Family Readiness Support Assistants (FRSAs) provide administrative and logistical support to commanders, rear detachment commanders, and SFRG leaders. MD&SSO also assists during Noncombatant Evacuation and Repatriation Operations. During emergencies, the Army Disaster Personnel Accountability and Assessment System (ADPAAS) helps gain accountability, assess Family needs, and coordinate assistance. The MD&SSO Program provides:
  • Deployment Support to Soldiers and units preparing to deploy or returning from a deployment. Information and referral services assist  Soldiers and Family members dealing with deployment and redeployment questions, concerns, and challenges. Services can be tailored  to assist commanders in meeting the deployment and redeployment needs of their SFRG.
  • Commanders also have the virtual SFRG (vSFRG) as a tool to communicate with their SFRG membership in a secure online environment,  especially during deployment.
  • Family Readiness Training for command teams, Command Family Readiness Representatives, and SFRG volunteers.
  • Emergency Family Assistance, provided when disaster strikes an Army community and accessed through multiple methods
    • Through an ADPAAS electronic assessment, Soldiers and Families can identify needs, which will be assigned to the closest ACS ADPAAS case management
    • Through the Emergency Family Assistance Center (EFAC), a garrison-level, one-stop location for Soldiers, Civilians, and Family members  to access needed recovery services   
    • During noncombatant evacuation and repatriation operations for personnel in OCONUS locations

SFRGs and virtual SFRGs (vSFRGs) offer Families official and accurate command information, connect Soldiers and Families to the chain of command, provide a network of mutual support, and connect SFRG members to on/off-post community resources.

SFRG Guidance: Army Directive 2019-17

Soldier and Family Readiness Groups (SFRG), formerly known as Family Readiness Groups (FRG), is a unit's commander's program. SFRGs provide a critical link between commander's and their Soldiers and Families. SFRG offers official and accurate command information; connects Soldiers and Families to the chain of command; provides a network of mutual support; and connects SFRG members to on/off post community resources. Commanders can leverage the SFRG to enhance unit readiness. Virtual SFRG (vSFRG)

The primary goal of the Soldier and Family Readiness Group (SFRG) is to act as an extension of the unit command in providing official and accurate command information to Soldiers and their Families. The Army Virtual Soldier and Family Readiness Group, or vSFRG, is a tool commanders can use to securely communicate with their SFRG membership regardless of a unit's mission or deployment status - anytime (24/7) and from anywhere in the world. A unit can customize their vSFRG site and control the content on their page. vSFRG is another way commanders can connect their Soldiers and Families to the chain of command, provide access to on and off post resources, and offer a network of support.

Social media is a powerful tool we use to communicate on a daily basis to tell the Army's story. Emergency Family Assistance

ADPAAS

U.S. Army Disaster Personnel Accountability and Assessment System (ADPAAS) standardizes a method for the Army to account, assess, manage, and monitor the recovery process for personnel and their families affected and/or scattered by a wide-spread catastrophic event. ADPAAS provides valuable information to all levels of the Army chain of command, allowing commanders to make strategic decisions which facilitate a return to stability.
